The Vin 48 is a restaurant and wine bar, but it might as well be called a wine bar and restaurant. The version of the drink menu we saw had a table of contents, 17 pages of wine and other 4 pages of brandy and liquor. Okay, we’re half kidding. The restaurant holds its own, too. With a predominantly American style cuisine, the menu is small but varied and it’s hard to find anything that isn’t superb.
The interior boasts its own mix of intimacy and spaciousness. There’s plenty of seating but also plenty to see. Skiers may wonder about the summer view when much of the restaurant becomes open-air, but the floor-to-ceiling glass windows still permit a decent view in the winter. We also found time to look up from the wine menu to appreciate the restaurant’s custom wine wall.
What They’re Known for: Aside from their wine selection, it’s their happy hour. In addition to drink specials, from 5-6:30, you can get a $14 small plate for $8. If you’re already splurging in other parts of your trip, this is a great way to afford Vin 48. Or to afford a second visit during the same trip if you fall in love.
What to Watch for: Making sure you get the perfect experience. Yes, this place is expensive, but it doesn’t exactly sneak up on you. Instead, call ahead, get reservations, and tell them what you want. Ask for a table in the back of the restaurant if you’re looking for a quieter, more secluded vibe.
