Storm King Lounge is proof that you can indeed get good, fresh sushi in the heart of the Colorado mountains. If you’re really hungry after a day on the slopes, be warned; this popular, trendy lounge open only for dinner each evening, so it gets busy fast and stays that way for several hours. Start with an appetizer (edamame seems to be a favorite choice), enjoy the sushi, mashimi and rolls and complete your meal with a red bean or green team mocha (ice cream). Those going gluten-free will be pleased to know there are 10 menu items that they can choose from. After you’re finished your meal you can extend the evening a little longer by challenging your friends to a competition at the restaurants’ pool table, poker table or dartboard.

What They’re Known for: Their large signature sushi rolls–and their big selection of martinis. There are 15 different rolls listed on their menu, from a typical crab, avocado, and cucumber California roll to the Tuna Poke roll made of Hawaiian-style ahi tuna marinated in a garlic chili sauce. Be sure to ask your server about any special rolls the chef has prepared for that that night.

What to Watch for: Relatively limited menu. The Storm King Lounge focuses on its sushi, and there are only a few menu items to choose from if your party includes some who doesn’t like that style of cuisine. The only non-sushi option is the little Samurai dinners, including Samurai Mac & Cheese, Tempura Shrimp or Teriyaki Chicken. They’re designed for kids, but some adult diners have been known to enjoy them as well.
