Driving Directions to Powderhorn

The good news is that the driving directions to Powderhorn Mountain are easy to follow and the resort itself is easy to find. Powderhorn Mountain sits on the edge of a valley, so it’s not tucked back into a tight spot like Silverton or Arapahoe Basin.

Coming from the West/Grand Junction Side

The driving directions to Powderhorn coming from Grand Valley are pretty simple. Just head east on I-70 to exit 49. This is about 15 minutes outside of town. This will put you onto Highway 65. You will have to make a very soft right turn about 12 miles in to stay on 65. After you make your easy turn onto 65, you will drive through Mesa, and then it’s just another 8 miles on up to Powderhorn, which will be on your right.

Coming from the East/Denver Side

Route #1. You will be headed West on I-70. When you get to DeBeque, take Exit 62 and head south on what is called 45 1/2 Road. This will eventually turn into highway 65, which will take your all the way to the Mountain. You will have to make a left onto 65, but it is a 3-way stop with signs toward Grand Mesa. Powderhorn is 23 miles from this exit, which will take 35-40 minutes if the roads and weather are cooperating. This is the faster route.

Route #2. You will be headed West on I-70. Instead of exiting at DeBque, keep traveling west until you get to Exit 49. The exit signs will list Powderhorn and Grand Mesa. There is only one direction to go, which is onto highway 65, so go that way. You will have to make a very soft right turn about 12 miles in, but just stay on 65 toward Grand Mesa. This route is about 34 miles from Debeque, but will take 40-45 minutes and will be the preferred route should there be bad weather. You are trading more interstate miles for fewer backroads.

With either route, once you make your easy turn onto 65, you will drive through a very small town called Mesa. If you blink, you’ll miss it. There are two restaurants here on either side of the road, and then it’s just another 8 miles on up to Powderhorn. You will be looking for this sign on your right.

Just turn here and you’re home.
