Deno’s Mountain Bistro
TripAdvisor Rating: 4.0
Address: 78911 US Highway 40, Winter Park (near Vasquez Rd. across the street from Fraser River Trail)
Deno’s Mountain Bistro is a signature bistro dining experience. It combines an upscale atmosphere with a crowd-pleasing menu selection. This includes an expansive menu with discrete sections for steaks, seafood, pizza, pub fare, and entrees, as well as a large selection of soups, salads, and starters. The bar service boasts more 600 labels of wine, plus plenty of beer and cocktails. With warm, delicious bread and generous portions, you may need a take-home bag even after a long day on the slopes.
For four decades, this restaurant, originally named Deno’s Swiss House and Coachman Tavern, has been a family business. But it’s certainly not a hole in the wall. Be sure to take a moment and appreciate the historical interior of the building, originally constructed in the early 1900s, and the facelift that is has received in the years since.
What They’re Known for: Happy hour. It’s from 3-6p. It’s probably not practical to make the beginning of happy hour, but if you stay focused getting cleaned up, you can enjoy a drink and small plate for an affordable price.
What to Watch for: Making sure you have a reservation. During peak season, this place can get busy, but they have no trouble taking reservations. It’s also important to gauge the time of day and sporting events. The interior can create a quaint, romantic atmosphere, though during prime-time events, it takes on more of a raucous, pub-like vibe.
